BT full course

basic safety training / SOLAS

training overview

Basic Training Full Course is mandatory under Regulation VI Annex II Part A and B. Basic Training (BT) is one of the fundamental certificates and is amongst the STCW courses needed for every person who wants to work on ships. It is formerly known as the SOLAS Training or the Basic Safety Training and Instruction (BSTI).


Basic Training is a mandatory course designed to teach seafarers (1) Personal Survival Techniques, (2) Fire Prevention and Fire-Fighting, (3) Elementary First-Aid, and (4) Personal Safety and Social responsibilities in keeping with Section A-VI/1 of the Standards. Bt Full course is good for ten (10) days which includes Theoretical , Practical Exercises and Practical Assessment.


Saint Joseph Institute of Technology-Maritime Training Center (SJIT-MTC) has been granted the approval of Full Basic Training dated July 5, 2022, pursuant to MARINA Circular No 2013-01, STCW Circular No 2018-02 and STCW Advisory No. 2019-05 in compliance with the STCW Convention 1978, as amended.


SJIT-MTC provides highly qualified, competent and duly accredited Instructors and
Assessors. SJIT provides facilities and equipment compliant at a maximum requirement of
the standard.
