A Dream Turned to Reality

The establishment of Saint Joseph Institute of Technology is a dream and vision fulfilled. The institution is a product of the remarkable dream of a young, enterprising man from Candijay, Bohol. His preoccupation and primary interest in life were reaching out to the youth through education as he knew that this is the key that opens the door towards progress and better quality of life for the least of the people in Butuan City and its neighboring provinces. The young man who founded the school and became the first president was Dr. Nicomedes A. Salas.

1971

In Scarcity, We Progress

Starting with a few old typewriters and sewing machines bought in Surigao City out of small savings, Dr. Nicomedes rented a two-story building. Included was a set of furniture for a classroom that became the learning hub of the first 130 students. These students enrolled in two semesters for vocational/technical skills working with a faculty complement of (3) three who could start the tinkering and learning of basic livelihood skills.

1971

Opening the Naval Doors

As SJIT continues to surpass expectations and build its impact on the community, the school invited Hon. Antonio G. Dumlao to grace the successful pass-in review of the school's Naval ROTC cadets.

1980

A Decade of the Journey

In a decade from its small beginnings, SJIT has expanded tremendously with an increasing trend of enrollment, courses offered, and the construction of five-story and six-story buildings equipped with the latest state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, instructional technologies, laboratories, and fully air-conditioned classrooms. Concomitant to this change “from scarce beginnings to sustainable growth”, SJIT has expanded its infrastructure to what is now one of the most impressive schools in the region.

1981

A Loss and A Steer

Amidst the agony of loss when the first president and founder died, Dr. Leticia C. Salas, took his place and became the second president and chief executive officer of the institute. Determined to steer the institution to meet the challenges to the greater heights of growth and success, strategic moves for accreditation and international certification were conceptualized and realized. This was their commitment and a stand that “SJIT must continue to grow as time marches on”. While the loss of the first president could have toppled and crushed the life of a flourishing school dedicated to “Education at its Best”, the turn and twist of events proved otherwise.

1989

Two Decades Going Strong

The program offerings were remarkable in that they expanded from just the vocational-technical skills-based to professional–technical courses to include among others marine engineering, marine transportation, engineering and architecture, information technology, nursing, business and management, and criminology as well as humanities and arts and sciences and education. The rate of enrollment rolled 40 times over from the starting enrollment of 130 students in 1971. In barely two decades, the enrollment of SJIT hit over 5000 mark.

1991

Globalization through ISO Certification

Strengthening its quality of education is one of the main priorities of the school. This year, SJIT did its best and received ISO (International Organization for Standardization) certification from DNV ( Det Norske Veritas).

1999

Celebrating the Humble Beginnings

Since SJIT's journey started in 1971, they have always celebrated the Foundation Anniversary celebration. In the same year, Miss SJIT took place for the very first time.

2000

Shifting For Good In Three Decades

Its program expanded to include Master’s and Doctoral programs and the complete basic education curriculum. Also, after a year of celebrating Miss SJIT, the school decided to shift it into Miss Intramurals, a name all familiar up to the present.

2001

Araw ng Parangal: A Dedication For All

Together with celebrating the SJIT CEO/ President's birthday, all deans, heads of office, faculty, and staff received service recognition for their contributions to achieving milestones and quality education.

2007

A Night of Groove, Mood and Move

The SJIT's Foundation celebration was filled with fun and excitement as the musical presentation of the faculty and staff was infused with the presence of the Bloomfields band.

2008

Paving Way to a Better Future: PACUCOA Accreditation

All Liberal Arts and the BS Business Administration programs had the privilege to apply for level 2 re-accreditation as PACUCOA visits.

2015

The First Maritime Training Center in Caraga

SJIT wants the best for its constituents. All the faculty and staff, including local government officials, attended the cutting of the ribbon M/V Leticia.

2018

PACUCOA Accreditation, The Third Time Around

PACUCOA visited the Liberal Arts and the BSBA programs for level 3 Accreditation

2020

Fifty Years of Bringing Excellence to Caraga

The Foundation Anniversary celebration of this year is beyond special compared to the previous years. This is because the school celebrated its golden year of service and education for the community.

2021

Graduate Studies Level Up

Building the best for people after an undergraduate degree, SJIT got the ACSCU Accreditation for Level 3 to offer Graduate Programs.

THE PRESENT- A Humbling Journey Indeed

With an economic pinch, the competitiveness of the service industry, and the stringent demands of the “global village” with the complexity and facility of information communication and technology (ICT), SJIT soars and steers through the winds and waves of change to where it is today, enjoying the blessing, and the grace of God. With the ISO CERTIFICATION from a well-known international certifying body – DET NORSKE VERITAS and TUV OF RHEINLAND and two accrediting bodies namely; PACUCOA and ACSCU-AI, SJIT, like an eagle continue to soar high, flapping its wings to make a difference by responding to global trends through quality education and training.
