ADMISSION AND RETENTION POLICIES ON BOARD PROGRAMS

A graduate of any secondary or a transferee from other colleges/universities may be granted admission to SJIT provided he/she presents valid credentials and meets the admission requirements of the department. All enrolees must pass the Admission Test (OLSAT-Level G and APRO Test) as the first step in the whole enrolment process. (Based on CMO 67 series of 2017 for BSMT and BSMarE Programs and Industry requirements)

Maritime Cadet Officers Program

Admission Requirements

  • Form 138(Average grades in Math, English and Science subjects should not be less than 85%).
  • NCAE Results. Average in all the ff. areas:
    1. (a) Scientific ability
    2. (b) Mathematical Ability
    3. (c) Manipulative Skill
    4. (d) Reading comprehension
    5. (e) Verbal ability
    6. (f) Clerical ability
    7. (g) Non-verbal ability
    8. (h) Entrepreneurial skill
  • Certificate of Good Moral Character
  • NSO Birth Certificate
  • Passed the semestral physical exam and the following medical tests: (Pre-employment Medical Examination for Seafarers following the requirements under Reg. I/9 of the STCW and DOH)
    1. ISHIHARA
    2. Hearing
    3. Hepa B
    4. CBC
    5. Drugs
    6. Fecalysis
    7. Urinalysis
    8. Chest X-ray
  • Obtained at least a passing rate of the APRO examination level (2 for 25% - 75%) 3 is above 75% / OLSAT examination at least score of 36
  • Others:
    1. Must be 16-22 years old upon enrolment
    2. At least 5’4” in height for BSMT
    3. Transferee is not allowed.

Retention Policy

To maintain quality education, the institution adheres to a retention policy for all admitted students, to wit:

  1. Must pass the annual physical and medical examinations.
  2. Must maintain an average grade of 2.0 (85%) in all subjects enrolled and with no failing grade/s and dropped subject/s.
  3. If the cadet-student fails in any of the requirement of the program, he will be advised to shift to other program of his/her own choice or preference.
  4. If he commits blunder and other grave offense, despite repeated reminders/warnings, he will be dropped from the roll.
  5. If he is positive in drug test he will be advised to shift to other courses.
  6. Drug Test is done every Semester. A student found to be positive in drugs cannot be admitted next semester.

All Other Board Programs

Admission Requirements

  • Certificate of Good Moral Character
  • NSO Birth Certificate
  • Drug test every semester (for Criminology Program Only)
  • Obtained at least a passing rate of the APRO examination
  • For transferee,
    • (Must have an average grade of at least 2.3 (82%) of his/her academic performance of the last school attended and must obtain at least passing grade in the entrance APRO examination).

Retention Policy

To maintain quality education, the institution adheres to a retention policy for all admitted students, to wit:

  1. A student with no failing grade/s and dropped subject/s and has maintained an average grade of at least 2.3 (82%) in all subjects enrolled in the previous semester is eligible to continue his course. Failure to meet the required average grade in all subjects, concerned student will be placed under probationary status for one semester and shall only be allowed to continue his desired program should he meet the required average grade of 2.3 (82%). Otherwise, he/she shall be advised to shift to a non-board program.
  2. A student with no failing grade/s and dropped subject/s and has maintained an average grade of at least 2.3 (82%) in all subjects enrolled in the previous semester is eligible to continue his course.
